FDIC 2019: Session: Firefighter Mentorship
FDIC 2019: Session: Firefighter Mentorship Firefighter Mentorship: Designing, implementing, managing and sustaining an effective mentoring program. Join me at the Fire Department Instructor Conference FDIC 2019 in Indianapolis, Indiana on Wednesday, April 10, 2019: 3:30 PM - 5:15 PM. It is paramount to effectively engage every member of your agency from recruit school through the senior firefighter ranks with an assigned mentor and mentee. This program will focus on how fire service personnel of all positions can positively benefit from mentorship. This program will provide training and technical assistance with the goal of working towards implementing and strengthening a mentoring program for your agency. The takeaways will be an understanding of the required tools to design, implement, manage and sustain an effective mentoring program tailored specifically, for your agency. Methodology: I prefer a lecture-based discussion for my program delivery. I incorporate the Socratic method of teaching to develop critical thinking skills. My strengths as an instructor are dependability, constancy, humility and compassion. I believe my instruction is a positive interaction with an emphasis in higher education. I reinforce the importance of furthering education based on my previous education, experience, certification and time in grade as a professional firefighter. I serve all students and I respect their own unique individual strengths and weaknesses. My goal is to create an environment for students to develop their own critical thinking skills. I respect the privacy of students and their own unique situations beyond the classroom. Learning Objectives: Review and evaluate effective mentoring program.Detail establishing an in-house program.Showcase how implementing programs can positively benefit your community.Setting benchmarks and evaluating effectiveness of programs.
